Weight Watchers Question

Okay, so I am trying to lose 7-10 pounds, and am doing WW. My question: I honestly don't think I have been eating that much, but I use up my point allotment practically by lunchtime! Here is an example (I am allowed 20 points). Here is what I have eaten so far today: for breakfast, a medium-sized bowl of bran flakes and raisins with 1% milk (1% and skim have the same point value even though I guess 1% is slightly higher in calories); for lunch a baked potato with some heat-and-serve lentils, for snack a small power bar. Call me crazy, but I don't think the above is overeating, yet now I have only 5 points left for the whole day! Even adding in 5 more points from the 35 weekly "flex" points, as well as adding in 2 more points from my daily 30-min exercise, doesn't bring to me to a point where I feel like I am eating enough to stave off hunger and to be satisfied.

How do all of you manage to stay on this plan when you are only allowed 20 points?? I'd rather not have to resort to processed foods (for example, WW yogurts are only 1 point each but they are filled with artificial sweetener.) I am starving, LOL...

I hear you. Only way to succeed without starving is eating A LOT of salad and vegetables to fill up w/out using a ton of points, and exercise so you can add to your point total everyday. Also, make sure you're getting enough protein too, that will help stave off hunger. 94% Fat Free popcorn (like Orville REdenbacher SmartPop) is only 2 points for the entire bag -- and that's pretty filling. I ususally eat baby carrots (by the ton) and laughing cow cheese (1 wedge =1 point) as a snack and that helps too.

PP here -- eating Bran Flakes WITHOUT the raisins will get you back a few points too .

Cereal is a killer pointwise. Try eggbeaters or eggwhites loaded with veggies in the am and a slice of whole wheat toast.

Right now I can have 21 points, but will probably move to 20 tomorrow. Anyway, here's what I've been doing- oatmeal for breakfast (3pts) or skim milk and fiber one cereal (1pt). 3 pieces of fruit for snacks (3pts), lunch is either salad with chicken on it (4-5pts) or I do lunch meat on an arnold muffin (5pts). I was eating a kashi bar every day (2-3pts). That leaves me with 8 points for dinner, not using up the extra 35 for the week. Another snack idea is low fat popcorn or the 100-calorie mini muffins- cinamin- they are 1pt as well.

ITA with advice about Eggbeaters loaded with veggies for breakfast. I tried some of the instant Quaker oatmeal packets and was hypoglycemic by lunchtime. The protein is filling so I don't need a morning snack unless I munch on some carrots. Some of the Progresso vegetable soups are 0 points and not bad tasting, so I am able to eat a smaller lunch. Also agree with the 94% popcorn idea, it is so filling and if you stick to 5 cups, it is only 1 point. I am doing weight watchers with an 18 point allowance/day. When I use more than 10 of the extra points, my weight loss slows to about 0.5 lbs/week. For snacks I have an apple, orange, carrots or Activia light yogurt. Good luck!

I am on a low GI- glycemic index- diet (or trying)- what you said about the instant oatmeal - instant is higher on GI scale- the best (and a low GI) is the steel cut oatmeal- protein is a great way to carry you throuhg- consider checking some books at the library about the GI concept..

I also found that cereal was a total point killer and made me hungry in like an hour any way. I think that rasin bran is very high in sugar calories. I would do something like an english muffin (whole grain) with sugar free jelly.

FYI- I lost 22 lbs on WW and have kept it all off for 6 months.

I am on WW and have cereal every morning, but a lower calorie cereal like Cheerios. 1 cup of Cheerios, 1/2 cup of milk and a banana or other fruit = 4 points. Of course, I also get a lot more points than some of you - I get 30 points right now.

I have recently discovered that Clif bars really hold me over. I guess they must have a low glycemic index?

The regular ones would be huge point killers, but the kids Clif bars are only 2 points each. I've been eating one every day for either a mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack.

Thomas makes a double fiber honey wheat english muffin that is good and only 1pt.

Maybe one of those w/egg beaters and a piece of cheese?

I second the suggestions about the english muffins. Also, Nature's Own double fiber wheat bread is only 1 point for 2 slices. You have to be really careful about cereal because depending on what type, it can be a real points waster, and most don't have enough protein to take you through the morning,

I also agree that you need to fill up on fruits and veggies with a "smattering" of protein and low GI carbs to stay full on such a low amount of points. I currently get 22, which I find difficult, so I can't imagine what it will be like on 20 or 18! Also, try greek yogurt -- it has a lot more protein than regular yogurt. A great snack is to mix plain, nonfat greek yogurt with a little peanut butter (not too much -- 1 tbsp. has 2 points!) to use as dip for fruit. I like with apple slices.

Good luck!

OP here--thanks for all the suggestions! I tried an egg-white omelet today with mushrooms.
