Embarrassed at the grocery store thread

I noticed that the posts about the word "nonplussed" were removed, but I don't understand why. Was it truly that offensive to mention the actual meaning of the word?

The ongoing conversation about the definition of the word was dominating the thread. Rather than hijack that thread, if arguing about the definition is so important, start your own thread.

Also, I really don't understand why everyone feels that they need to get an explanation for every single deletion these days. Couldn't you figure out that those posts were off topic by yourself?

If you deleted every thread/post that went off on tangents, you'd have no board.

The use of "nonplussed" in that context was more than just a typo that the grammar police jumped on.

Besides, I'm pretty sure the OP is trolling anyway.

Fair enough. I found it confusing because threads go off topic pretty frequently here, without posts being deleted.

I guess you are right that there is really nothing more important than the definition of the word "nonplussed". Not only should discussions of it's definition take over other threads, but the topic even deserves its own thread. In fact, let's spend the rest of the day -- no, the rest of the week -- talking about nothing more. I'm sure that will leave a few of our uses nonplussed.

You seem irritable today, so I'll refrain from pointing out your "it's" where it should be "its" and your dropped "r" in "uses."

And, I'm the opposite of nonplussed. You seem pretty worked up, though. Hope your day turns better.

The nonplussed forum, coming soon.
I appreciate that you delete that stuff, it becomes a smug off at some point

I've seen board moderators move an off-topic subthread of posts into a new thread. That is a bit of work. But deleting non-offensive posts because they're off-topic seems a bit busy-body micro-managy superfluous work, too. I don't know. At least post a "please start your own thread" message?

Your comment about people needing an explanation for every single deletion is kind of funny. When people take the time to put a thought/opinion in writing on the Internet, albeit anonymously, it kind of makes sense that they'd be surprised that a tangent gets silently deleted and want an explanation, if only an italicized note somewhere on the thread. How about some empathy?

We are talking about an argument (a multiple post argument!!!) about the definition of the word "nonplussed" in a thread about buying condoms. I refuse to entertain anymore discussion of this topic.
