We have purchased a very old (1700s) colonial house with a small, under-the-stairs powder room that needs a new floor. I would like to install wood because I think it looks kind of farm-y and homey while tile (great in full baths) is a little more clinical and outside of the historical time period of this home. I also want to wallpaper this bathroom in something cute (I swear) and I think a tile pattern would be too loud in combination with a bold wallpaper. But I love tile in other bathrooms, it's easy to clean, meant for water exposure, etc.
Has anybody put wood in a powder room and regretted it? |
Your house sounds amazing! Yes, powder rooms do fine with wood floors. Ours has no tile. There's no shower or bath so you don't have to worry about wood in a powder room. Just make sure your sink has a deep enough basin or enough counter rim so that people aren't slopping water on the floor and you will be fine. |
We have wood in our powder room and it's fine. Just make sure it is sealed properly and you won't have any problems. |
We are putting wood in ours. I certainly don't see any reason not to. |
We have wood in our powder room.
As long as you don't have boys in the house you will be fine. If you do have boys, make sure you wipe down the floors regularly. Wood does a good job absorbing boy pee that can't seem to make it in the bowl. |
Tile would be hideous in that context. So would laminate. Stick with wood. |
We have wood-look ceramic in all of our bathrooms and it looks and feels great. |
+1 It wasn't until we started potty training our DS that I realized why our powder room had a bad smell we couldn't get rid of. The previous owners had three little boys. |
We just had to replace the wood floor in out powder room because the wax ring under our toilet failed--twice. It's one of those things you don't notice until it's too late. |
+1000!! Or just potty training toddlers of either gender. Potty accidents always seem to happen right before making it to the potty. |
Original poster here. You must have little ones. And girls. Sigh...I wish it was just potty training years. With boys, it just goes on, and on, and on. Why do you think mens rooms smell so badly? Missing the bowl by boys is the gift that keeps on giving. |
