Morning rush hour from DC to Baltimore

Anonymous
I have a doctor's appointment in Baltimore tomorrow morning at 9am, have to arrive by 8:45am. The appointment is about a mile north of the Inner Harbor downtown area. I live in Dupont Circle area. What's my best way to get out there? All things being equal, I'd prefer to drive so that I can drive home really easily when the appointment ends at 11am. If I leave at 7:20am, will traffic be terrible?? Or am I best to just to the commuter train, with cabs on either end?

I used to work in Pikesville (just north of Baltimore) and live in DC. The traffic isn't that bad really because most commuters are Baltimore residents commuting to DC (not the other way around). It used to take me about 50 minutes to 1 hour to get to work in Baltimore by 9am.

I agree the traffic isn't bad. I used to drive from Arlington to right around BWI and it took about 45 minutes. Not sure the best route from Dupont but I used to go 395 to 295 to either BW parkway or 95. BWI parkway is a pleasant route.

There is a new traffic pattern as you approach the inner harbor exit off of 95 - so plan an extra 15-20 min to sit just in case.

Not sure of the best route out of DC - I did the Arlington to inner harbor route for years and took 395 to 295 to bw parkway. I think 95 has actually been less accident prone. I now live in the 'burbs so I can hop right on MD 200.

It should be smooth sailing between 495 to inner harbor -- sometimes it slows down around Columbia. Then prepare for traffic confusion as you try to get off 95.

I'd leave at 730 if possible ( or earlier).
