CMIT Kindergarten Assessment

How do parents feel about this test? I didn't realize my dd would be tested before starting school. I spoke with Ms. Cooper, the new kindergarten teacher that administered the test- she explained the test is to determine and create teaching lesson plans, and resources for children- to better help the teacher teach. She explained that higher scoring/lower scoring kids aren't separated & that classes will be a mixture of all levels. Hope so! How do other CMIT kindergarten parents feel? School is less than 20 days away !!!! Such a big deal for us first timers!! I feel like I'm going back to school!

Not a CMIT parent but I know that at our local elementary school the K kids were assessed the first week of school to determine their current abilities. It gives them a base line and helps them to figure out what reading group they need to be in. They did shift some kids around after the assessment so that all the high achieving readers would be in a classroom with enough kids for a reading group.
It sounds like CMIT is getting a jump on it early, which makes a lot of sense. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

I think it is a good idea. Kindergarteners come to school with a wide range of abilities from not knowing ABCs to reading books. I think it would help them figure out where everyone is to create a plan to meet them where they are. We are in private school and they did similar assessments the first few weeks of class. In my case, my child was reading and I was happy to have him given appropriate assignments versus having him be bored to tears learning letters and phonics.
