We are not at all outdoorsy but would like to try a national
park vacation next summer with kids who will be 3 and 5. We would like to stay in a cabin and do some very mild hiking. Proximity to a major airport or Southern California (where cousins live) would be a plus. would you suggest? |
| Acadia. Lots of moderate trails and great views everywhere. Tons of lodging options, from basic to fancy. Bangor is not a major airport but there is a nonstop from DCA. |

East coast: Acadia
West coast: Rockefeller National Forest Avenue of the Giants (northern CA); Big Sur (slightly less northern) |
| Jackson Hole? |
| Depending on what part of southern California you're talking about, Joshua Tree is great. You can see a lot of the part by car. You can even stay in a hotel there. |
