recommend your basement digout contractor/structural engineer

So we are looking at doing this for our DC rowhouse. I know it can be a huge expense and that we need to get someone to dig down to see how much foundation we actually have to work with (we are about 4-6" short of 7 feet). Obviously if it becomes insanely expensive because of massive underpinning then we may not go forward.

Anyone with ACTUAL EXPERIENCE doing this able to recommend their contractor/structural engineering firm? We need someone who can do a good analysis and is well-insured if they take on this job. thanks
