Hi,
We're new to the area and beginning to look for childcare for our 1 year old. Can you offer a ballpark MONTHLY estimate for the cost of full-time (M-F) daycare vs a nanny share (on the books)? Also any thoughts on how long it typically takes to get off the waiting list at a daycare like Children in the Shoe, etc? Thanks! |
| A nanny might charge $20-25/hr, so you'd split that with another family. |
| Wait lists are a complete crap shoot. Depends on when your kid was born, how many sibs of older kids will take spots, and (at least for Shoe) persistence, since it is not purely first on the list gets the spot. |
| $1,800 - $2,000 for infant in a licensed Bethesda daycare. |
| Thanks, all! |

We pay something like 1750/mo for full time daycare for a 22 month old.
We used to be in a pt nanny share and paid $10/hr. We figured though that it was going to be expensive to do it full time as we would have needed care for about 45 hours a week, so that translated to 5 hours of overtime, plus the health insurance we were paying into for the nanny. It was adding up. |

How many hours a week of daycare is considered full time?
50-60? |
| Full-time infant day care in downtown Bethesda is approx. $2000- $2300/month. The rates usually go up each year, but they usually go down as the kids get older. |
