I swear everytime I go through there, it's like everyone has the same front yard... Hostas, Purple coneflowers, Blackeyed susans, glossy leaf summer Magnolias and Crape Myrtles.
It's like the Stepford-wives neighborhood.. |
|
Never heard of it. Sounds pretty though!
And your yard? |
|
Pollinators love coneflowers and black eyed Susans. There's a reason black eyed Susans are the state flower of Maryland. Magnolias and black eyed Susans are native to this area. Love to see them and don't see them enough.
|
| OP here, I am not disagreeing that these are great plants, but it's like the entire West Springfield area has no originality and that's all folks grow. It's a little too cookie cutter... |
| This is your beef? |
|
I live in West Springfield (not Orange Hunt though). I see lots of things besides Crape Myrtles, Magnolias, etc. !! In fact, we have maples, oaks, sweet gums, ash, pines of various types, fruit trees (cherries, crabapple, pear), etc. just on my block. My husband and I have lilacs, willow bushes, Japanese maple, gardenias, camelias, leatherleaf mahonias, azaleas, hollies, dogwood, dahlias, butterfly bush, and others that I don't have the names for on the tip of my tongue. And I do love the Susans and coneflowers also. |
| Get yourself a flamethrower, OP, and go vigilante on their bourgeois asses. |
OP, I know what you mean. Every yard has the same six plants -- the same six plants as every office building and every gas station. (I'm not in West Springfield.) |
|
I live in Orange Hunt!
Can't imagine why the OP must criticize another gardener's selections. All those aforementioned plants are good choices for our Virginia soil, deer, extensive shade, etc. I suggest the OP take a try at gardening in an acre while managing pests, improper pH balance, limited sunlight and little free time to garden. Then we will critique your work. Humph. |
| OP here, but there are so many other choices... but it's always Crape Myrtle, Sad hosta plants placed in the sun (they are a shade plant), daylillies, and Purple coneflowers... |
| I've decided that people's lives are just too hectic to garden. Everyone's yards here look like shit. Where I'm from, people had magnificent gardens and really loved gardening. |
Why not offer your services as a freelance landscape gardener? |
Don't forget Stella Doro daylillies and orange daylillies. Also, begonias. |
