Do you have a home water purification system?

I usually just have filtered drinking water from the fridge, but lately the DC water has been terrible for my skin and hair.
Instead of buying a shower filter, I thought I might install a home purification system in the basement, so all the taps would be covered.

Does anyone have a system like this?

Yes we do. Our Culligan one exploded so we replaced it with a passive carbon filter (company located on Eastern Shore, can't remember name). It works fine, no maintenance except for 2 year switching of carbon.

I'm interested in this as well. If anyone has installed one, can you remember how much the installation process cost? Was there anything surprising you had to deal with?

Please just make sure you don't fall for the Rainsoft scam ( starting with a free water "analysis" offered at Home Depot.)
