| I've done a little digging online but don't really understand the semester hour requirement for coursework prior to sitting for the CPA. I'm interested in taking the exam but don't have an accounting degree. I have a BS in economics and a BS in math and a top-10 MBA with a couple of accounting classes. Does anyone have a ballpark idea if that's enough? I would need to take some refresher accounting classes anyway to prepare for the exam. |

See below for the ACCOUNTING course and credits at a minimum you need.
An accounting concentration or equivalent requires at a minimum: • 24 semester hours of accounting courses, including courses in auditing, financial accounting, management accounting and taxation • 24 semester hours of business courses, no more than six semester hours of which could be considered accounting courses You need 150 semester hours total. The above is for VA but most states now have the same requirements. |
