Where in Bethesda would you...

Where in Bethesda would you live if you wanted to be close to DC, fairly close to the metro and send your kids to public elementary school?
And how much would you have to spend to achieve that? Quite a bit under $1M hopefully!?
I'm trying to get a feel for neighborhoods in Bethesda but haven't figured it all out yet. Thanks!

I'd go to the garden-style townhomes in downtown Bethesda - along Bradley Blvd and around Hillandale Rd. They run well under $1m and go to Somerset Elementary (are technically in Chevy Chase). Very close to DC and walkable to the Bethesda metro and all the hops and restaurants. Also to the Bethesda swimming pool and a couple of nice playgrounds.

Some of the small older houses in Glen Echo Heights might fill the bill - it is in the Wood Acres school district and straight shot down Mass Ave to DC. Not walkable to metro though.

East Bethesda or the town of chevy chase. walkable to metro, you can spend around 600-750 for a nice, if smallish, 3 bedroom.

I second this.

Greenwich Forest...It's between Edgemoor ($$$$) and Suburban Hospital.

Close to Metro....downtown Bethesda.....and Bethesda Elementary School and Library

Parkwood--a Bethesda/Kensington neighborhood. Closest metro is Grosvenor/Strathmore.

Maplewood/Alta Vista. You can get a lovely SFH in the 650-750K range. Schools are Wyngate, North Bethesda and Walter Johnson. You can walk to NIH/Med Center metro.

FYI and as an aside - Two things to watch out for: beltway noise (especially at night) for houses near beltway and for those houses near glen echo area - plane noise. Amazingly the traffic not too bad around bethesda except perhaps Bradley.

Where is Edgemoor exactly?

Edgemoor is bounded by Wilson Lane, Bradley Blvd., and Arlington Blvd. in my mind, at least.

East Bethesda, except I'd be worried about the trouble at the park near the community center, or the Westbrook school district. You can get houses in the 800s in both.

What trouble at the park are you referring to?
