And I have a school-aged child. Would love a school like Sheperd Park elem. Know of a comparable public?
Anonymous
YES!!!!!! Where will you be working? South Hills-North Hills?
Anonymous
Yes, it is diverse. There is probably some lingering racism in some areas but probably no worse than some other areas. I went to school at Pitt and loved it. Good school.

No. The Steelers suck.

It depends on what you like to do. Rust Belt culture is interesting (I'm from Ohio). Places like that don't always welcome outsiders, but go on a site like city data and review the forums there.

The job is in Shadyside/East Liberty area. Where can we rent for less than $1500?? I have a mortgage here in DC!
Anonymous
NO

Too cold and (I'm white) there are a lot of ignorant white people. You wouldn't "fit in." It's not international at ALL.

No very cold

Everyone I know that moved there hated it and the people I know from there don't hate it, but have no desire to move back there. The weather is really overcast so they don't like that. Plus, you have to take a bridge to get into the city from nearly any direction, so they hate that too, but there are some cool areas IN the city and it is a surprisingly nice city. I have never seen so many football bars in my life. I have no idea what it's like in terms of racism, though, because everyone I know who has lived there is white.

I think it's a lot like Baltimore, where I am from, where people grow up and live in the same areas their whole lives, so they know each other and it's difficult to break into a group and feel comfortable. But, the houses are way cheaper.

This move isn't forever. Five years tops.

Well, I know my PA left and moved to Ohio; her mortgage is about the size of a large car pymt.

Shadyside is awesome - very Old Town with good food, great stores, walkable culture. You should be able to find something you like at $1500/month.

I am so jealous. Great neighborhoods, diverse culture. You will meet anyone you want to meet there.

It is NOT like Baltimore at all. Pittsburgh is safe and beautiful and racially diverse in a great way, NOT LIKE BALTIMORE AT ALL.
