how to display Grandma's commemorative plates?

Anonymous
I've inherited my Grandmother's collection of about 10 commemorative plates - church dedication, college building, scene from her home town, etc. Not my taste, but they remind me of her and, at least for awhile, I'd like to display them. She had them in small groupings in her living room; I'd like to put them in my dining room / living room (we have an eat in kitchen with no wall space). Only one plate has a backing, the rest she had in some weird plate holders that didn't make it to me. Thoughts? Tips?

Why not just use them?

you can put them on the wall or just put in plate stands on a table. Frankly I'd pick 3-4 you like and just use those - no reason to display all 10 if you don't really like them.

Amozon has both plate hangers and plate stands. I have either black wooden ones, or clear acrylic ones with a wire back. The latter are really not visible on the shelf. Some hardware stores also carry these - I know Stronsider's has the plate hangers, probably plate stands too.

Michaels has plate hangers.

I would do them on a hallway wall or a laundry room wall. I think they'd be neat in a kitschy like way. I decorate often.

You could get picture ledges with a lip from Ikea, hang them and prop the plates against them. Pottery Barn also sells picture ledges.

There are some neat designs if you google "Plate wall." I personally would probably shop Goodwill or TJ Maxx for some solid-colored plates to mix in with the plates and maybe make them look a bit more integrated with the rest of my style. I like sentimental stuff but I also like it to look good

Thanks everyone! I will use the plate hangers, and probably add in some of my own to mix it up.
