What to do with high-end fixtures I don't want?

Anonymous
We just moved into a house filled with very high-end, expensive, mostly lovely fixtures - mainly transferable window treatments and light fixtures - that are just not my style. Is there anything I can do with these items? Are there consignment stores that take fixtures?

the light fixture you can sell. The window treatments you might need to pitch if they were custom made. You can also donate them.

And this is why I have always thought it is really odd that light fixtures convey in this country. They are such personal choices, and we take them with us in Europe.

Sell them, including the window treatments. I have bought high-end window treatments on Craigslist before. You won't get nearly what they cost new, not even 50%, but you may get 20 - 30%.

But what do you do when your light fixtures don't fit in your new home (in size, style, etc?). If moving from a traditional colonial to a modern condo, I wouldn't want to take the light fixtures with me. They'd have no place in the new house.

I guess then I'd sell them, but I'd put contemporary light fixtures even into a traditional colonial. I consider them part of the furniture, not the architecture, and I prefer modern furnishings even in older houses. If they don't fit in size, then of course I'd have to get rid of them.

Sell on craigslist or donate to Habitat ReStore and take a tax deduction.

I think it is weird that they do not convey. Who wants to move into a house with a bunch of open junction boxes and live wires, with no light in place in the house?

Curtains on the other hand...unless we are talking about plain blinds or wooden shutters, why would anyone leave their dusty, stinky, personal curtains?

OP if you would like to sell I may be interested in buying except if they are super modern angular in style. What is the style?
We are soon to move into a new house as well

OP, as someone who sold a lot of high end items when we downsized, yes, do try CL because it does work.

I agree with the PP who said that you will at best get 20-30% of what they are worth new. Also, look at what sort of valuation you can claim if you donate it and if the tax savings that would result in an amount that is approximately what you'd get if you sold the item, then that would be yet another reason to donate it apart from any altruistic intent.
