We are starting renovations and will need to store some items in my parents' attic for at least a year. I'm thinking of things like boxes of photo albums with plastic sleeves that are usually kept on an inside shelf, some sentimental kids' toys, artworks, baby items and clothes -- things like that.
What is the best way to store them? Are plastic bags or bins OK for the clothes, or is it better to keep everything in cardboard boxes? How do I prevent clothing items (e.g. family christening gown) from fading? I'm not worried as much about possible water damage as I am about extreme heat and cold in the attic. All of these items have been stored in the house in a temp-controlled setting up until this point. Thanks for any tips. |
I wouldn't store photos in an attic.
If you want to store clothes, I'd put them in air tight bags in plastic bins. I'd also put cedar planks in there to ward off any clothes moths. |
