Are you at a school with no before/after care program?

Anonymous
No KAH, KidsCo, or anything going on at school. I spook with the school office and they couldn't help. Anyone else the same boat? What are you doing?

What school?

Find a different source for before/after care? Sorry, I don't understand why you're asking this. It's not rocket science.

There are probably off-site programs that kids take the bus to. Ask around to find out.

If it is a problem, lobby the school administration to offer on-site before/aftercare. There is no reason why every school shouldn't do this.

Ours doesn't offer it at the school but kids can be bused to some programs and others pick kids up at the school. I cannot imagine that in MCPS, there are any schools where not a single kids needs before and/or aftercare.

With the new 20 minute later start time this is horrible. Did MCPS consider working parents especially for the elementary school start time? What job can you show up at 10 am?

This is a forum for sharing ideas. Not sure why you think OP had no right to ask.

If you post the school, we can give you more helpful information about other options

Not the OP, and I have found a program, but Wyngate has no before or after care on-site. I think it's crazy! Any other ES's out there?

Actually I think Wyngate, Garrett Park and maybe a few other schools that didn't use to have on-site programs will have them this year.

My son goes to the Shady Grove Kindercare for preschool and I know that they pick up and drop off a number of school age kids at several of the local elementary schools. I would recommend that you ask a PTA rep or a parent with a child at the school to see what they do. I would bet that a number of parents send their kids to a nearby daycare center.

I've also noticed Bar-T buses in the area who seem to pick up kids for aftercare programs as well.

Wyngate has an on-site program starting this school year. I have heard that it is already full. Try Ayrlawn for before/aftercare, lots of WES kids go there.

My child just finished at Oak View, which does not have on-site before/after care. We were an HGC family, so we used our home school before care. The two schools were only a short drive apart (literally 5 minutes!) The home school providers would walk my child to the bus in the morning. A month into 5th grade, he didn't want to go anymore and would set an alarm and walk himself to the bus.

Is there another nearby elementary that has care? If so, you could put your child in care there and see if there's a bus to transport before and after school.
