Infertility Support and Discussion
| Is there any major difference between the two. ANy reason why one would be prescribed but not the other? Does one have better results? |
| Believe they are the same. |

No, prometrim and provera are absolutely not the same. Please read "What your Doctor may not tell you about pre-menopause". It explains the difference and dangers to women when they take provera and other synthetic hormones.
Provera is a synthetic hormone that is partly comprised of horse urine. It is linked to a lot of undesirable diseses in women and awful side effects. Prometrium is natural progesterone and is the same biological makeup as what your body produces. One is synthetic from horse urine and the other is plant based and is bio-identical to what your body makes. The book is very helpful. |
| Provera is synthetic and prometrium is not. For inducing a period (if that is what you are doing) they are supposedly interchangeable, but I had really bad emotional/psychological side effects on the provera. No side effects on the prometrium. Provera, however, is cheaper because they make a generic. |
