Thanks! He's read rick rioted an and holes... But not the others. For the person who does audiobooks, do you play them in the car mainly? Pls keep series suggestions coming?

I'm audiobooks PP. In the car and from school/camp or in house while doing chores or eating breakfast. Dragon wings read by Brendan Fraser is phenomenal, as is Boy by roald Dahl and Matilda, read by Kate winslet. You can do searches for best audio books for kids to get domes good recs.

Consider going nonfiction

History options like YA version of the WW II series by Atkinson

Also there is this list

If he likes science try some of the Scientists in the Frield. They are not long but have a lot of useful concepts.

By the time a kid is around 7 or 8, I will not go researching books for them. I send them to the library to browse and talk to librarians.

If I can think of a book I read at their age that I enjoyed, I'll mention that. But I'm not going to find their fun for them.

Does he like mob movies? If so, The Fourth Stall series is fun.

I see my job as introducing my son to the classics I loved, and they can choose the contemporaries themselves.

So now my 10 year old is reading My Family and Other Animals, by Gerald Durrell. It's 1200+ lexile range, packed with lyrical descriptions and rich vocab... but it's hilarious as well! An account of a 5 year sojourn the author made as a young boy to the Greek island of Corfu, and the birth of his passion as a naturalist and animal collector. He went on to found his own zoo for conservation purposes in the 70s. The humor is in how he describes his quirky family and all the mishaps that happen to them.

DS has also read The Hobbit, The Lost Prince, Tom Sawyer, The Longest Day, the Hounds of the Morrigan. All oldies but goodies.

Literally every 12 year old boy I have known (and that's a lot; I used to teach) has loved the Alex Rider series. And I love it too!

How about something like The Crossover Hardcover by Kwame Alexander. It is sports - but a verse novel - so something a little different.

Longest Day woman...is that you? You always have to drop that book title, don't you?
