Didn't enroll off the waitlist. Will I really lose my slot?

Anonymous
I was notified last month that we got off the waitlist for a PreK 4 slot, but I wasn't sure if we wanted to take it and I didn't enroll. I just saw that the deadline was June 12th. Will I really lose my seat? And what if I do enroll, but get off the waitlist at one of our preferred schools? Can I enroll at 2 schools? Appreciate any help.

If the deadline was June 12, you've lost your slot. No, you cannot enroll in two DC public schools at the same time.

Check your status on myschooldc. If the school was strict on the deadline and booted you, your status will say "declined". If not, the status will still say something like "offer extended" (but if you want the spot call them ASAP). If you accept, you are still on the waitlist at higher ranked schools. If you decline, you are still on all other waitlists.

You could call the school. If it's a school with low-demand, there's a possibility your child still might find a space. If not, a deadline is a deadline--and your spot has likely gone to someone else.

OP here. It's a low profile Montessori, but we've decided we definitely want to enroll. I checked my schools DC and it still says offer extended. I'm sweating bullets here. Will call the school first thing!

Is it Langdon? I'm curious about that for my DD since we live in the area.

Report back OP, so curious! Good Luck!

Oh, OP, I'm sorry. You're most likely out of luck unless a miracle happens. You can't ignore the deadlines.

not true, it depends on the school

pp here again, we missed the deadline for 2 schools - one of them did remove of us from their list, the other kept the offer extension pending past the deadline and we were able to enroll.

OP here. I called and no luck! ? although she suggested I call back on Wednesday when the registrar is back in the office. I thought I was safe because the system still said registration pending. My expiration date was actually June 23rd. We didn't jump on it because we were planning to keep DD at her private, but then administration changed at the private school and we wanted to move her.

They likely filled your slot. If you get nice leadership, maybe they will offer you the next slot that comes available (if one does). I'm not sure how much latitude they have in doing this with MSDC managing the waitlists.

OP, I hope you aren't really surprised by this. You are one month late. Just because your circumstances changed, it doesn't mean that they can re-open the slot for you. The registration pending was clearly just a delay in information updating. You had a known expiration date.

OP here. I'm not surprised, but I don't understand why the attitude in your response. I am unfamiliar with the process and came here with a simple question for the masses.

You're unfamiliar with the process? You get a notification with the word DEADLINE and you think it's fungible? That's on you.
