Suggestion

it would be nice to have a working moms thread, where moms can talk about childcare issues, returning to work, pressures at work, work-life balance, etc. I would imagine SAHMs would like a forum too to discuss issues unique to them. Thanks--

I completely understand where you're coming from, but I expect this would just make it easier for people to troll those threads.

That's really sad

Isn't that what the jobs forum is for?

Not if you want to ask about how to find coverage for sick kids or good camps for summer vacation. Or how to organize things so you can eat a healthy dinner at a regular time. Or vent about a spouse who is unwilling to miss work to stay home with a sick child. Or just feel bad because you are missing the middle of the day 1st grade play. There's a lot more to being a working mom than what goes on in the office.

All those threads exist in General Parenting (or sometimes Food). Why do they need a special forum?

Jeff -- Cars and/or Tech before this, please!

Working mom here and I use these boards for all of the things suggested here, but I go to individual threads (like preschool, health, etc...) or general parenting for everything I'm interested in.

I think if there were threads for working moms vs. stay at home moms, they would be immediately and significantly redundant of myriad other threads.

I don't want to sound like Apple, but "there's a forum for that...".

- coverage for sick kids: We have an entire Nanny forums section and a forum for daycare
- camps for summer vacation: we have a camps forum
- healthy dinner: Food forum
- vent about a spouse: Relationship forum - explicit or non-explicit depending on the nature of the vent
- missing the middle of the day 1st grade play: General Parenting leading to 20 page moms war.

Not if you want to ask about how to find coverage for sick kids (general parenting) or good camps for summer vacation(classes, workshops, and camp) . Or how to organize things so you can eat a healthy dinner at a regular time. (food and cooking or older kids or general parenting) Or vent about a spouse who is unwilling to miss work to stay home with a sick child. (relationship discussion non-explicit) Or just feel bad because you are missing the middle of the day 1st grade play.(older kids) There's a lot more to being a working mom than what goes on in the office.

I am a working mom and I think it is wholly unnecessary to create a forum for this. The issues are universal (and what about the dads?).

PP here. Jeff, you and I were on the same page! Sorry for the redundancy.

What you call "redundancy", I call "affirmation".

Don't 99% of people just use the "recent topics" button? I only go to a specific forum if I'm looking for a specific thread.

You have to pick a forum if you want to star the post.

Star a post? What's this? Is this how I can keep track?

OP you're basically asking for a kind of apartheid on these boards.

Never a wise move. Just look at South Africa.
