Rental with carpet in dining room

| We live in a rental with carpet in the living/dining room. What can I put under the dining table to protect the carpet? Thinking about carpet tiles, but not sure how to install them over the existing carpet which is fairly thick. I've also considered a sisal area rug. Any other suggestions? What's worked for you? |

| A thin 8x10 rug. If you have a toddler, a shower curtain. |

| We got one of those plastic mats that you put under rolling chairs to go under the high chair. |

| I don't think carpet tiles would work. Pretty much any non-porous area rug should do it. |

+1 they are cheaper and a lot softer on the feet than jute and/or sisal. |

+2 this is a great idea! We actually had a rental that was alllll carpet, and did all of our eating in the DR (two kids-one in high chair and one in booster) and never had a mess. I vacuumed a lot anyway, so there were crumbs. but never any spills. In retrospect I don't know how we pulled that off. |
