Single moms: does your 10 year old DD sleep in your bed every night?

Anonymous
DD has a twin size bed in her room.
She complained that the mattress was uncomfortable, so I got the memory foam and put on top of it.
She slept in her bed for a few nights and she is back in my bed every night. She says my bed is more comfortable.
Sometimes I'm asleep when she sneaks in and I wake up to her sleeping next to me.

Would you let your DD sleep in your bed or she is too old to do that every night?

Once a week or if she is sick.

How long have you been single/divorced?

I have a girlfriend who got into this habit with her only-child DD after her divorce... and she is kicking herself HARD now 2 years later.

My 5 year old winds up in my bed every night. I wouldn't be surprised if she's still doing this in 5 more years.

Is it waking you up or disrupting your sleep? If not, I would let it go.

Nope.

No. Clearly the kid just likes cosleeping. I only like to sleep with people I'm having sex with, so that wouldn't work for me.

I was/am a single mom of a now 16yo DD. She has slept in my bed from the beginning. First, it was because I was nursing and I almost dropped her one early morning when I was getting her from the crib. We nursed until 2yo. Then we lived in a single room and the room wasn't big enough for my queen bed and a twin bed, so she stayed in my bed. When she was 3-6, we got a 2 bdrm apt but her room was on the other side of the apt (set up for roommates) and we were both uncomfortable with that arrangement, so in my bed she went, at 7-12 we were in 1bdrm with den, the den was in the back of the basement apt with a door to the outside and again I felt uncomfortable so she was in my bed. At 13, we finally got a house. She was able to furnish/decorate her room exactly how she wanted and got a new Full sized bed. She hasn't been in my bed since, except to watch a movie or something. I received lots of criticism saying that it was unhealthy, blah blah blah, but my DD is fine (from what I can tell). There has never been a man in my bed so I didn't get why I wasn't suppose to let her sleep with me. I guess time will tell if I have screwed her up, but for now she seems fine.

9 years, since she was 1. She has an older brother (12 now) who sleeps in his bed every night.

To one of the other posters - no, it doesn't disrupt my sleep. I'm usually so exhausted I can't even hear her come in. She doesn't wake me up.

My 10 year old still sleeps in our room, not all the time but enough to drive me crazy! He says he either had a nightmare or just can't sleep. I will walk him back to his room and he is back in ours within 10 min. I really don't know how to end it. Btw, I know other 10 year olds that also do it -

I slept with my mom until I was 12. That year, we redecorated my room and I got a full sized brass (ha, I am dating myself) bed. It was a natural transition. I am a normal adult with two children now. If it doesn't bother you, and doesn't bother her, what is the problem?

Married mom and DD does this.

Yup mine does this. Divorced when she was a baby. Also got the jazzy bed with the memory foam. I don't mind her company. It won't last forever and i will probably miss it when it's over (not the co-sleeping but the general closeness we share).

My mom never married. I slept in her bed pretty much every night until I was about 10 (when my little brother was born), and then occasionally until 13 or 14. I wouldn't say it screwed me up, but I definitely have trouble sleeping alone - maybe one of the reasons I never really lived by myself and married relatively young at 24.

I would suggest sleeping in her bed and seeing if she's right.

My son would sleep with one or the other of us at that age, whenever one of us was out of town. It solved itself naturally not too long after that.

I didn't worry about it.
