Carpet installation in just upstairs hallway?

Is this expensive to do? What color would you recommend with kids but would also fit in an old Victorian dc rowhouse?

Why carpet in a hallway?

Can't help you on the install but wouldn't it be easier to get a really good rug pad and get some long rigs that for the space? With a rig pad they won't slide around (there are thick wool rug pads that make the rug soft underneath).

Old Victorian- I would say hardwood floors and a runner

A real carpet/flooring store will likely have a selections of remnants that will be cheaper. With the small square footage, you likely won't get a break on the installation charge but it shouldn't cost more than $500.

I recommend a light neutral as it won't show dirt and lint and it's not likely you'll have food spills to worry about.

I would do carpet runners if you have hardwoods.

I would only carpet the hallway if I were also carpeting the rooms off of the hallway; just carpeting a hallway would look weird and probably be more expensive than just buying a few long rugs.
