carpet seams showing

Anonymous
We just got new carpet installed in our Master Bedroom suite. It cost a small fortune - $3300. It is Berber carpet. It was installed today and I can see all the seams. I am really upset. This is a lot of money and I do not want to see the seams.

Also, in one section, they made an "L" as if they made an error and then filled it in with an extra piece of carpet. And I can see that seam.

Can I get a redo? Or is this common with Berber carpet? (We had berber installed in our rec room about 8 years ago and I have never noticed a seam.)

We have the same problem in out basement.

You should call and insist that they do something to fix it. We have Berber in our basement and the first time they installed it you could clearly see a seam that crossed the whole room. I didn't say anything because I thought maybe that was just a risk with Berber but it always bothered me. Our basement flooded (another story) and we had to replace a large section of the carpet. We went with the same seller to get matching carpet and I showed him the seam when he came to measure. He agreed that it was too visible and was able to figure out that the installer had matched things well in one direction, but hadn't match the nubs or whatever they're called going diagonally too and that's why the seam was so visible.

It looks much, much better this time. For all that money you should be happy with the result and not stare at really visible seams all the time. It sounds like the installer wasn't careful enough and I think you can insist on a re-do for that.
