Expectant and Postpartum Moms

After years of infertility, we did a successful round of IVF, & during the 2week window, I found a lump in my breast. I have a strong family history of breast cancer (albeit post-menopausally). I found out I was pregnant on Monday & I had a breast ultrasound & painful needle biopsy (painful because the baby aspirin I was taking for IVF caused major bleeding when they nicked something inside) ....So I wait until next Weds to get results, and although it could just be something to do with all the hormones & not cancer, I am worried worried worried....
Anyone dealt with anything similar? Anyone actually have cancer during pregnancy? What kind of treatment did you have? Thanks. |
OP, I am sending you huge hugs. I wasn't going to respond because I have no experience with this, but I will say that I was told not to be afraid of lumps in my breasts during pregnancy since they are very common. They could be growth related, fatty deposits, swollen milk ducts, growing milk ducts, blocked milk ducts, etc. I bet if you didn't have a strong family history of breast cancer, they would not have even checked. I won't tell you not to worry because obviously you can't stop yourself and I would be worrying too. But know that chances are very good that this just hormonal. Will you please post and tell us what happened? In the meantime, I hope someone who has gone through something similar can tell you how they handled it.
Big hugs from here, too. I had some lumps, but not to the point they did further tests. My already cystic breasts got MUCH worse during pregnancy. So just letting you know it absolutely could be pregnancy related. Best wishes.
OP here...thanks so much for the words of encouragement--it means a lot.
One of my closest friends found a lump when she was pregnant. It was completely benign and she delivered a very happy & healthy baby. Hang in there!
