I'd go for a non-glittery cocktail-type dress. Black is always safe, but colors and prints are fine as long as it's not too flashy. Skip the sequins and lace; stick with a classic silhouette and a more conservative cut (easy on the cleavage and not too short).

For this time of year I would go with a sheeth type dress in a lighter color.

+1 or black. With some type of wrap or cardigan in case they have the a/c cranked.
