What part of VA are you in? We go to River Chase Farm in Aldie, VA which is past Leesburg. I'm not sure about a 5 year old though. I am making my dd's wait until they are 8. My 9.5 year old has been doing riding lessons for 1.5 years now, and I am finally seeing some progress. A heck of a lot of time was spent on the lead line learning how to make the horse walk in a circle. At $45/for half an hour.
