FET advice following negative fresh cycle

Anonymous
Just got my BFN after my fresh cycle. My period started 2 days ago and bloodwork was today. So its official
I guess the good news is that I have 3 frozen from the same cycle. My nurse left a message that I could roll right into a frozen cycle or wait a month. Waiting to speak with her directly (and my RE is out of town).

I just turned 41 the other day, with a history of recurrent miscarriage ....... Any advice for me?

Hi OP. Sorry that your last cycle didn't work out. I had a similar experience with my fresh cycles. For some, I think the frozen cycles can work better (less meds in your system) so I hope that will be the case for you!

Perhaps see what the nurse advises on waiting or not. I opted to wait a little for my FET because we had a trip planned and I didn't want to be stressing out trying to fit it in right before the trip. I also decided to use the time to try to optimize the cycle. I tried acupuncture once a week to see if it would help. It may have just been coincidence, but that cycle was my successful one. Good luck!

I did this OP (failed fresh and immediately into a frozen.)

My twins are 4 now. The frozen cycle was, by far, the easiest part of my multi-year infertility battle.

I'm sorry this one didn't work. I hope the frozen cycle brings success.

This is what I did and I have a healthy toddler now. Good luck. I know it's hard.

Are you done doing fresh cycles? At your age, I'd be tempted to get as many embryos as I can and save the FET's for later.

I am 31 so had different considerations (i.e., could go back and get more if this cycle failed without worrying much). How many frozen do you have? I echo the other sentiment that you might want to bank as many embryos as you possibly can at this point...

FWIW I had a failed fresh, took a cycle off, did another fresh retrieval, followed by a frozen transfer a few months later. Frozen worked and am now 13 weeks.

OP here, thanks for the support and advice! Unfortunately I can't embryo bank because I am in the shared help program which means I have to use the frozen ones first before I do another cycle. I have 3 frozen (One day 5 and 2 day 6 embryos). I had put 1 5 day for the fresh cycle.

OP again. Spoke to my nurse and decided to move forward. Between the pills/shots etc. I am looking at a late August transfer date and that seems like enough time as a "break" to get myself together. Now I need to decide how many to put back in.....

Sounds like a good plan OP.

Re how many to put in, my two cents would be to base that decision on your age (or, if donor eggs, on the age of the donor.) My total layperson's advice would be that if you are younger than 38 put only one embryo in. If you're 38-41 it's greyer and I'd think about your overall egg quality, responsiveness to the cycle, etc... and maybe do 2. If you're 42 and up (and the eggs are yours) then put everything you've got in there.

I have twins from DE and really wish I had been given this advice.
