Can anyone help me estimate the cost of replacing a basement window...one of the smaller ones? I cannot handle having any of those pushy window salespeople over to talk about it, especially when I'm just in the cost-estimating phase of renovating the basement.
Thanks. |
A small one, like 2x2 feet square? Assuming a standard size window, i can't imagine more than $600 or so. |
Contractors renovating our basement installed a $400 window during the job -- they only charged us for the window itself since they were doing the other work anyway. |
Find a handyman to do it. Buy the window at HD or Lowes. |
Steel framed? Pricier, but more secure assuming it's ground level. |
Easy DIY if you are handy. Actual window depending on size is $100-200 for a basic window. We ordered some from HD that were specific for basements. You can also get them off the shelf if you have a standard size. If you cannot DIY, get a handyman. It doesn't take long to install. |
Don't replace with a steal frame if you have one. Remove the frame, build one out of the plastic boards (store brand is fine), screw in with concrete screws, then put in the window (and seal with caulk and window foam). |
OP here. Great ideas and info, thanks!! |
