| We're new at BCC and I'd like to get to know some parents and maybe volunteer a little at the school. I know parents are a lot less involved at the high school level but I'd love to hear from some BCC parents about what they would suggest a new parent could do to feel more part of the BCC community. |
| Any BCC parents out there? |
| Get active in the PTA. There are always opportunities. |
How do you get active besides going to PTA meetings? |
Here's the PTSA website. Lots of leads for those interested in getting involved. http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/schools/bcchs/parents/ |

Do you have neighbors with high schoolers? Contact the PTA President and ask what volunteering opportunities they have. You could be a board member and have a "mission", or just be on their list for odd jobs to do during the school year. |
| Thanks! |
| Work on one of the fund-raising projects. The BCC Booksale is in the spring but planning, book sorting, etc. start months in advance - fun project & great group. |
| also, encourage your kid to get involved in a sport or activity, then work as part of that activities' parent support group. good for your kid and good for you too ... new friends for all. |
oops .. activity's.... |
I agree, the friends I've made at BCC have all been through volunteering specific to my kid's activities. -- parent of a junior. |

The listserve always has a variety of opportunities for parents to be involved. Some require at-school time and others none.
Ditto comments that doing activities connected to your child's interests makes sense. |
