Ovulation predictor tests- have i been timing wrong all along?

Anonymous
I just spoke to a doctor who told me that by the time i get a positive on a ovulation test (ie happy face), i would have ovulated (or basically would ovulate seconds later) so i would have needed to have sex before? This is contrarty to EVERYTHING i have ever heard... i know that is the truth with temping, but i thought LH surge comes 1 or 2 days before ovulation? has anyone ever heard this before? maybe I never needed all those IVFs and IUIs- WTF??

Your doctor is wrong. The positive on the test means you will ovulate 24-36 hours later. You want to have the sperm waiting for the egg, so you have intercourse or an IUI. I conceived both kids with an IUI--got a positive in the afternoon and then went in the next morning for the insemination.

And yes, you're correct about the temp. Once your temp jumps, that means ovulation has already occurred. I'm guessing your doctor was tired and confusing the 2.
