| Should kindergarteners (in FCPS) have supplies already when they start school, such as pencils, erasers, notebooks, etc., or will the teachers let us know what to get for the kids after school begins? |
| School supply lists are posted on the school's website. Bring the supplies to the open house before the first day of school. |
| OP here - Thank you! |
| Often the PTA at the school has organized supply boxes to purchase for each grade. These can be a bit more expensive than shopping yourself but it's one click shopping verses driving to three different stores and stressing because you can find the "correct" blue folder. |
Check with your PTA now. Rising K in APS and we missed the mid-June deadline for ordering a supply kit so now I have to drive all over town. |
| Stop talking about back to school already! You and the backpack poster both! |
What? For many of us this isn't back to school, it's entering the school system for the first time. These last few weeks of trying to figure out what life is going to look like and making sure we have all our i's dotted and t's crossed is exciting but can also be stressful. Of course we have lots of questions! Don't click if the threads stress you out, but for some these are helpful. |
| I got the school supply list for our ES 3 weeks ago, including the bulk ordering option. It's not too early! |
Ditto for DC's school in FCPS. Deadline was in early June. PTA handed out order forms at kindergarten orientation, so I have no one to blame but myself. |
OP, if you are in APS, note that the deadline varies by school. This week's Taylor PTA newsletter says the school supplies lists won't even be published until sometime "in the next few weeks," at which point parents can order the PTA kits online if they choose. In my experience, it is cheaper to buy the PTA kit than to do it myself. |
OP indicated in FCPS, not APS. |
Sorry about that, I read too quickly. I read the follow-up posts and was upset that I might have missed a deadline somehow. |
|
OP, I posted the same question last July, so ignore those who criticize you for asking about this now -- the PP is correct that FCPS schools post a supply list on the school website before the first day of school. The way it worked in our K was that we dropped off the bag of school supplies at the meet-the-teacher open house before school started or on the first day of school. The school supplies were then pooled and used throughout the year. From what I understand, there was no guarantee that a specific kid would get the specific notebook or crayons he or she picked out, so don't worry about buying anything special. We bought everything at Wal-Mart.
In most schools, it is too late to order school supplies through the PTA, but it should be an option for next year. |
| Our FCPS PTA school supply kit deadline is July 31st. It really just depends on the school so check your schools website! |
|
Also, the June and July deadlines for the PTA kits are sometimes just to get the best price. For my rising K'er last year I missed the June deadline but was still able to order the kit for a slightly higher price in early August.
As an aside, I was surprised to get some of the supplies back at the end of the school year - an unused notebook and a couple of other items. |
