Do we need a permit to install overhead lighting in fairfax county?

New home has no overhead lighting and we want to install it -- just wondering if we need to contact the county to get a permit first? Its all interior and we have attic access.

Need? No. Should? Maybe. If you know what you're doing and follow code I wouldn't bother. Adding lights/cans is pretty straightforward.

OP here - we're going to hire a licensed electrician to do it, so code will be followed.

So shouldn't they help you with the process and maybe expedite it for you if you need one. Not trying to be snarky but if they do this kind of work they should automatically know the procedures involved and whether a permit is needed.
