Wisdom tooth extraction

Can a regular dentist remove an impacted wisdom tooth, or does the removal have to be done by an oral surgeon/specialist? I ask because this removal would be self-pay, and I assume that the surgeon would before expensive than a regular dentist. Thanks in advance.

Impacted? Go to an oral surgon. I had a regular non-impacted wisdom tooth removed and it was easy-peasy, but everyone I know with an impacted one has had more difficulty.

This is OP. Thanks for the reply!

Probably obvious, but that second to last sentence was supposed to read "I assume that the surgeon would be* more expensive..."

I had it done with the oral surgeon. It hurts like hell, that's why they want you to remove them all at once, since it is hard to return if you do it one at a time

For non impacted a regular dentist is just fine.

I've been putting this off and will be self pay as well. My oral surgeon gives a 10% discount if you pay upfront, or will do a payment plan. I need 3 out and it is going to be around $1700.
