Pelvic PT for kids?

Anonymous
My 12 year old has been suffering horribly from incontinence, and has been recommended biofeedback. It is really hard to find people who do good pelvic PT work with kids. Does anyone have a referral for me? We can go any reasonable distance from DC including up to Hopkins.

Try Her Health Physical Therapy in Columbia. The owner there, Jennifer, is wonderful. If that is too far a drive, she may even be able to recommend someone closer to you.
Good luck.

Thanks so much for this. I will call them. My child is a boy, if that makes a difference for other recommendations. I do think it is critical that the PT has trained appropriately and worked with children, male or female.

There are a lot of articles and support for the notion that incontinence that is not caused by muscle/pelvic floor dysfunction is caused by severe constipation. Has that been ruled out?

I saw a wonderful therapist at Virginia Hospital Center- Pany Nazari. I know she is a mother herself, though I don't know if she sees children. Worth a shot because she was a great therapist and a very, very kind person.

I read another mom's experience with her similar aged son. He was severely constipated and also ended up testing positive for celiac. It might not be that PT is needed.

Yes, completely ruled out.

We've done all the testing. No IBS, IBD, celiac or constipation. We've been told to try to find pediatric pelvic PT… but this is very very hard to find.

How long has this been an issue for your son?

Has his blood sugar been checked?

For the 9 months. There was a precipitating infection and loads of antibiotics for that.

Yes… his lab work is very normal and reassuring.

Restore Motion is a PT for pelvic floor issues, usually among women who have given birth. I would call and ask if they have any recommendations or can see you kid.

I'm assuming bladder/urinary tract infection?

Is your son fairly overweight?
