Blastocyst - Embryo Quality ?

Anonymous
I'm currently in the so-called "2ww." My FET transfer was last week.

We transfered one Day 6 blastocyst. Of the two that were "transferable," we chose the one with the higher *score.* This is the number I am trying to understand.

Last time we did an FET cycle, the clinic used letter grades. Evidently, the embryologist there now describes a percentage (of what I don't know) -- the higher the number, the RE said, the better the quality. The blasts were "85%" and so on...

Does anyone know what this means? The clinic is SG.

I had a transfer at SG the first week of February and I was given a letter grade, this must be something brand new. I hope someone has an answer for you. I would guess that 85% is really good though.

85% is the percentage of cells that survived the thaw intact. You want this number to be over 85% so it sounds like yours was just fine!
For reference, we did a transfer of 2 blasts at SG a few months ago and were given a 95% thaw rate for each blast.

Good luck!

OP here. Just got my call re BFN. Bummer! The blast was described as having 100% of the cells survive. But here I am: not pregnant.

On to our next FET cycle.

I'm very sorry!!!!

I'm the poster above (3/31/09) who had 2 blasts transferred in November at Shady Grove. I didn't mention it in my previous reply but my cycle was also a negative and we had no idea why.

The frozen blasts were described as "perfect" and were the same quality as 2 fresh blasts that resulted in my 2 year old twins. Everything about the cycle went perfectly.

When it comes down to it, Shady Grove's frozen transfer rates are pretty dismal compared to their fresh cycles. My RE actually admitted this and said he himself doesn't know why. It's frustrating.

Good luck to you as you go on in this journey!
