Expectant and Postpartum Moms
Okay, I'm sure of it. This baby is kicking me square in the cervix. I am about 25 weeks along and I've felt all manner of twinges and pains, I've got a perfectly good-looking (so I'm told, and by that I mean tall and closed) cervix, and I know what baby's kick feels like. He / she goes at it all day long, the active little creature, taking aim at my gallbladder, rib cage, and bladder almost all at once. The thing is, every once in a while, I get the impression that this baby is trying to kick his / her way out of me early. About at least once every couple of days I get the distinct impression that this baby is punching or kicking me in the business zone. It hurts like crap, but I can deal. The bigger issue is, can the baby kick out my mucus plug or otherwise break out of there? Please forgive that ridiculous question. I'm also going to ask it of my doctor -- have an appointment this week. In the meantime, I'm really not to worried because it seems so clear that it is a kick and not something more nefarious like dilation (not that I have any idea what that feels like) but it is very odd. Has anyone experienced this before? No spotting or other issues at all, by the way, just some kickboxing kangaroo baby, I think. Also, sometimes I think he / she has hiccups on my cervix. These are more rythmic, softer, and repetitive and feel just like when he / she has hiccups elsewhere, except this seems to be on top of my cervix. anyone dealt with this before? Thanks. If I wiggle my rear end and pelvis around like a lunatic, I feel like I can get him / her up and out of there so he / she goes back to punching me in the bladder.

| Yes, my 35 weeker kicks my cervix all the time and it is not comfortable at all. It hurts sometimes and I wiggle a little to try to get da baby to stop and move on to another spot. |

Yeah, I get punched in the cervix sometimes too. At least I think she's punching - her head is down, but she hasn't dropped. So, I'm thinking little fists going to town. I'm 38 weeks, so I'm kind of wishing she'd start worming her way out, but I doubt that they can dislodge the mucus by their miniscule force.
And for you, babies are still way, way small at 25 weeks. They'd have to be pretty powerful to kick their way out. |
| I get kicked in the cervix all the time, especially during the second trimester. He seems to like to kick my cervix particularly when I'm walking, which makes for a very uncomfortable stroll to the bus stop. I hadn't considered whether he could actually "kick his way out," but at least once I figured out it was him kicking, I could rule out dilation. |
OP here -- ha ha, i know they're small! I guess I'm in for it if it's painful now. It doesn't yet hurt when baby kicks me in other places (like my bladder, which I hear gets really fun later on) but this will definitely provokes a yelp or squeal of protest out of me if I'm not expecting it, and you know, I so rarely am expecting a kick in the bits from the inside out, you know!?! I think baby completely stretches out, braces his / her feet in the hole so to speak and goes at the area just below my ribs like a maniac. The other day baby seemed to be keeping some kind of rythm on the opposite sides of my belly button. My husband was a drummer for a long time. I wonder if baby is practicing in utero? I just have a mental image of baby dressed like a ninja kicking the ever living crap out of my cervix in order to make a run for it. Never mind that I know they can't even hold their heads up when they get out...it's just hard to imagine this kicking doesn't do some damage in there. I can't belive how strong it is -- I"ve been feeling him / her kick since 16 weeks and this is my first and by 20 weeks you could already see my stomach moving like a bubbling cauldron when baby would kick around. I was pretty slim pre pregnancy, but not emaciated or anything. Wonder why I feel it so much more than some other people say they have? Perhaps I have a soccer player in there. (I bet every expecting mom says that). |
| 26 weeks. i hate the sensation of getting kicked in the cervix/bladder it feels so weird. just becus the baby is small doesnt matter. its really the whole body u feel moving around in there not just the extremities. |
How sad is it that I prefer the bladder to the cervix? Not that the bladder is particularly fun, but I really can't get used to the cervical chop. |
Oh, OP, thanks for making me laugh. I really needed it. My dd wedged herself with head under my ribs/on lungs and feet on my bladder. She wasn't a kicker, but a little super stretcher, and every time she stretched out it simultaneously knocked the air out of me, felt liked being socked in the sternum, and almost made me wet my pants. Good thing she's a cute kid now and I love her anyway.
Hang in there! |
Just wait until it lodges a foot or hand up into your ribs and settles there for a bit. Grrrr. |
