Having children is great but not the best thing in the world. Do you agree?

I love my child, of course, but love a lot of things... my parents, my friends, traveling, a nice glass of wine, a great book or movie, hearing my song...

I feel strange that being a mom isn't so fulfilling that I don't mind seeing movies or traveling or eating in a good restaurant. I still love all those things a lot!!!

Chime in if parenting is nice but you feel where i am coming from..

** don't mind NOT seeing movies, etc..

Why would you let go of all of your other pleasures just because you became a parent?

Being a mom is not the biggest thing in my life. But, I don't like kids, and I'm not hugely sentimental.

Adopting a child gave my life purpose. I did a lot of interesting things before, but they all pale in comparison to this. JMHO.

Everyone minds giving up other pleasures whether or not they think having children is the best thing in the world.

This. I still go to movies and travel and eat out at great restaurants. I have friends and date nights and even a hobby or two. My children are also the best thing in my world along with my DH. So I can't say I agree.

If you don't like kids why did you choose to become a mom? Serious question, no snark.

I like apple pie. It is my favorite food in the world. Most of the food I eat is NOT apple pie.

There are only about 10 days per year when I wish I could get rid of my kids on freecycle.

Now that I have a tween I can understand this.

Because my husband very badly wanted to be a father, and I want him to remain my husband. So he's the main parent, and we have a nanny while I work full time even though financially I don't need to.

Thanks for answering and I can understand why you made that choice. Any regrets?

So if you have children and STILL enjoy traveling or eating in a good restaurant, THAT means your children are not the best thing in the world. Huh? That makes no sense. As another poster said: "False dichotomy."

I think having my children was the best thing in the world and I they have amazed me in ways I never imagined. I did not realize I had so much love inside me. AND I enjoy other things in life such as traveling, going to movies, eating at restaurants, etc.

+1. I can't imagine my world without the family my husband and I have created. That said in the past 10 years I've also grown and changed personally and professionally in many ways. One didn't stop the other, in fact seeing how creative and inspired my kids could make me encouraged me to pursue other pursuits.
