follicle size question

hi - I am on the clomid/ovidrel/IUI protocol...my day 11 follicles on my right ovary measured 15.3mm and 12.8mm, but today (day 13) they measured 13.4 and 10.8mm...is this strange? my left ones today were 14.1mm and 15.3mm, E2 = 1700 (on estrace) and LH - 5.6. my RN wasn't very helpful in helping me make sense of the numbers...has anyone else had follicles decrease in size before? is this ok/normal?

It does happen. In general, I get the sense that it's not a good thing, but it doesn't necessarily mean the whole cycle will be a bust, just that those follicles aren't likely to be healthy, growing ones.

the measurements of follicles are not always exact. It depends on the tech or dr. doing your scan or where your bowels are at the time. True! When doing my IVF, my largest ones seems to have decreased by 1-2 mm and others were like 4mm larger. I really wouldn't worry about it. I am sure they are growing nicely.

thanks both - OP here. Explanations like that are very helpful...the RNs and u/s tech just seemed like there was no explanation, that is why I wondered...I appreciate the feedback.

I think this is definitely something you should call your RE about and ask for an explanation. The techs and RNs are sometimes reluctant to answer patient medical questions, with good cause because they may not have the right answer. But your doc should be more than willing to talk to you about it.

i think diff docs/staff members can get different readings depending on the angle -- at least that's what i was told.
