Maryland Medicaid - help!

Anonymous
Does Maryland medicaid pay for ABA? We are new with this I have no clue where to start. I'm also looking into a CNA. My son has medical issues as well and a regular babysitter really isn't ideal.

They are supposed to, under, at the very least, EPSDT which is supposed to ensure that children have access to Medicaid available services that are medically necessary even if the Medicaid state plan would not otherwise cover it. Feds release guidance about coverage for ASD services - doesn't mention ABA specifically but it was one of the drivers. http://www.medicaid.gov/Federal-Policy-Guidance/Downloads/CIB-07-07-14.pdf

That said, I think Maryland is one of the states that may not be in compliance or may view ABA as only one of many possible ways to address ASD, and therefore not cover it - so they might cover "behavior services", but it wouldn't necessary be someone specifically with ABA or other behavioral training. But worth pursuing.
