The only time I see "racism is dead" is inane comments like yours as if anyone was making that claim.

OP - get the headline right.
They weren’t all in SC.
Were they hate crimes? Investigators don’t know yet. Not all of them were considered arson.
So, while your thread headline is provocative, it is also incorrect and incomplete.

The burned churches are in Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina. Federal investigators are looking into some of the cases to determine whether hate crimes were the cause, but so far the fires do not appear to be related.

Actually, I was being provocative because I get so sick of people claiming that racism is dead.

I am so sure that they need to investigate whether they are hate crimes - NOT. Would it be a coincidence?

No, the exact words of the right wing media were "post-racial society".

The south freaks me the fuck out.

There is racism elsewhere, of course. It's not as overt, and it's different, but it is still overall much less.

I'm not black, but I come from brown Muslim people. We grew up in New England, where there was certainly ignorance, but not really much flat-out hatred.

This.

If you're going to be an alarmist, OP, at least get your facts straight.

And the latest one, they are now saying was started by lightening.

I'm not sure how seven churches, spread over several southern states, sounds any better.

Where are all the Heritage not Hate preachers defending their flag? Why are they not defending these churches, symbols of southern heritage?

Whatever the details, I'm surprised that the burning ot eight churches in such a short time does not get much more media attention.

There's coverage...http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/south-carolina-black-residents-ask-whos-burning-black-churches

But not every church is an arson, not every arson is a hate crime and they are still investigating.

There are an average of 5 church fires every day in this country. So in the past 5 weeks with that average there have been 175 church fires.

Investigations? I ain't got no time for dat! Racism!

I'd be interested in seeing where those church fire numbers come from. Thanks.

PP here, Just read in a WashPost article about this subject that ~1800 church fires happen each year. Amazing. Had no idea that there were so many fires.
