Cause of extreme gassiness in 7 month old?

Anonymous
She had two new things yesterday... Sliced mango and those little organic yogurt melts. We were up for four hours in the middle of the night with crying, arching back, gassy, massive blowout. Wondering which is more likely to have caused the tummy troubles... I'm thinking the yogurt melts but was really hoping not - she loved those and the kids loved giving them to her.

I'd hold off on both for a while.

Op here. Anything else that's an easy snack like that that will melt in her mouth?

Has your diet changed (assuming you're bfing) like eating even an extra serving of brocoli, beans, etc.?

Mum mums melt in your mouth. Expensive, but an alternative to yogurt melts. We used to do rice cakes too.

Mango can cause a sensitivity reaction because it has the same oil as poison ivy in its peel. I can't eat or touch mango because of this. Sometimes it is not an issue if you wash the mango thoroughly after peeling (thus washing away all the residual oil) but often, store-bought sliced mango isn't thorough washed after peeling, and most people don't think it's a big deal at home, either. And for most people, it's not! You have to be sensitized to the urushiol for it to cause a problem.

I agree with PPs to hold off on both foods for a while, but I'd reintroduce yogurt before mangos if I were you.

Mum mums are made in China.

Plum has a type of mum mum-like cracker that's organic and made in the U.S. I think it's "Little Teethers" or something. Also has more calories, which is nice if you have a tiny kid like mine and you don't want a lot of 3-calorie crackers taking up their appetite. I think Happy Baby also makes an organic melting cracker that's low-calorie, too. I got them in Target.

OP here. Today was not what I expected. Ended up in an ambulance and she had surgery this afternoon to remove some small intestine, colon and her appendix. She had intussuception - nothing at all food related. Long long day. And to think I thought it was those damn yogurt melts causing gas...

Oh no -- I am so sorry to hear that. Your poor poor baby, and poor you! I am just glad that you got her the medical care she needed and I hope she makes a speedy recovery.

Honestly at 3am when she was screaming be arching her back I immediately thought gas. I posted this when I woke up this morning... but a few hours later she woke up, she had vomited and had a diaper full of blood. Totally listless and pale. Very scary. At that point realized it had nothing to do with food. Thank goodness she is in recovery now.

OMG I was going to post about a mango allergy - but wow - is she doing better? My 5 mo had a stomach bug and they suspected the same condition as your DD - I am so sorry.
