Please help a decorating dunce--I need finishing touches for our MBR re-do

We just re-painted with BM Stonington Gray (white trim) and this is the rug I bought:

New bedding is white, pick-stitch with a mixture of white and slate gray shams. Curtains are white sheers and furniture is dark espresso brown. We also have an old set of bedside sconces in oil-rubbed bronze with off-white shades.

The room desperately needs some artwork and decorative accents that bring out the colors in the rug, but I'm not sure which colors to focus on or what to buy. Any suggestions? This kind of thing doesn't come easily to me. Does what we have sound OK so far? Thanks in advance for any and all help!

It sounds great so far. For accessories, it helps me to visit stores and look at theirs. I like Ethan Allen. You can also look at the various furniture stores in Tysons Mall.

That sounds lovely! Really, you could pick any color in the rug and go with that for accent pieces. Personally, I might go with the orange (if that's what it is - hard to see on my Ipad) or butterscotch, but any of those colors would work. You probably already have pieces that you've inherited or picked up on your travels that would look good in the space. There are a bunch of online sites to look for relatively inexpensive accent pieces - Wayfair, Home Decorators Collection, Etsy (for homemade, sometimes one of a kind items), and many others.

Art is pretty personal; it really depends on your taste. You could look at online resources like art.com for ideas and inspiration. If you have the time, you could visit the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria to look for original pieces. Also, just a thought - you might want something more substantial on your windows than just sheers. But it really comes down to what you like, especially in a personal area of the home like the bedroom.
