| This year we're growing basil (green & purple kinds), rosemary, thyme, and oregano. I'm avoiding mint (although I love it) because I don't want to deal with it spreading. What herbs are easy to grow and don't cause problems? I'm thinking next year I need to grow cilantro as well. |

Mint in containers is super easy and you don't have to worry about spreading.
I always have a variety of thymes, rosemary, lavender and lemongrass. Cilantro likes cooler weather so it will bolt when it gets hot. Sage is easy to grow, if you like it. The tricolor variety is attractive too. Pineapple sage is good for garnishing iced tea, and the late summer flowers are beloved by hummingbirds. It does get huge. |

I have basil, thyme, sage, and parsley in containers on my deck right now. Very easy, and great money-savers, since I don't waste half of what I buy at the grocery store, using it for just one recipe.
With basil, remember to cut it back liberally. That way, it grows bushy, not just tall. |
