How much weight can I hang on drywall?

I want to hang a small 18 lb toy shelf on the wall; with toys it will be heavier.
I can't seem to confirm where the studs are (the wall is in our poorly made addition). What's the best way to hang this? Can I rely on anchors and long screws? I can affix this to at least one stud. |

| Look for toggle bolts that have a fastener that your can push through a hole in the dry wall and use to engage a bolt. You can reliably hang a lot of weight with these. |

OP here with an update.
I am going to move around the L brackets to fit into the studs. Problem solved! |
