Thawing embryos -- how many did you lose?

Anonymous
We lost a number of embryos in thawing them, back when I got pregnant through FET in 2004. What are your experiences with this? Have thawing procedures improved? We are thinking of scheduling another FET. But we don't have many embryos left, and I feel protective of them!

We thawed 5 embies and only 2 made it to transfer.

We just completed a FET last Tuesday, the 24th.

The first blastocyst thawed did not survive the thaw. The next one (the one we transferred), was frozen in the same straw as one other blast. Both survived but we only sought to transfer one. We elected to transfer the one the embryologist thought had a better chance.

(Our 2-year old was conceived through a fresh IVF cycle in 2004, frozen, and thawed/transferred in 2006.)

We thawed 3 and transferred all 3 (I had 2 failed fresh cycles to my credit). We had one healthy baby. It was hard to think of losing any of my totsicles but you gotta play to win.

I thawed 4 embryos each time I've done an FET. The most I've had survive and make it to transfer are 2. I had 1 healthy baby from a transfer of 2 embryos.

I had 7 frozen blasts and they all survived the thaw. My 21 moth old daughter is the result of one of them.

At this point, I've had something like 22 embryos thawed, and every single one of them did so successfully. However, since I obviously don't have 22 kids -- they did not all successfully implant.

You never know which embryo is going to surprise you. The last embryo I had in the freezer (rated as having the least likelihood of being a baby by the clinic) from 5 years ago is now kicking up a storm inside me and due very soon.

OP here. So good to hear about the ones that might not be the "pick of the litter" but come on strong in the finish! Thank you, PP -- and everyone else!
