arc trainer?

what is difference between the arc trainer and an elliptical? is one better than the other?

I love the Arc Trainer - I think it gives a smoother, lower-impact "ride" than the elliptical. Not sure about the relative calorie burning potential. You can find them with or without moveable arms (prefer the moveable arms) and you can adjust both the intensity and the incline, which not all ellipticals can do. They start you at level "15" which is probably comparable to about a level 2 or 3 on a normal elliptpical machine.

One note: I couldn't use the Arc too soon post-partum because the stride is wider and I worried about tearing my stitches. (sorry if that's TMI.)

they're also very expensive machines, so most of the local gyms don't have very many of them.
