Tell me about Room and Board

Anonymous
I have only ever bought furniture from Ikea or Macys. Can you tell me about R&B - quality, durability, aesthetic etc. What clothing store/brand is analogous to it?

I love room and board. They have quality furniture that last to the point of passing it down to your kids once they leave the house. Their furniture is solid. I have a bed that is so heavy to move, that i cant do it on my own. Their customer service is the best. I bought the wrong dresser and they let me keep it for over a month before the new one came in. They returned with no issues. Their furniture has a minimalistic appeal to it.

OP here: Thanks, so it is like Eileen Fisher, then?

Agree it's very high quality. We have a 12 year old couch that's going strong. It retains value too. We sold two 10 year old chairs for $500 - I think they were $800 new.

We love R&B. In addition, a good portion, not all, but a good percentage of their furniture is made in the U.S.A.

I just bought a couch from there. I can't wait for it to arrive!!

We bought a dining table, dining chairs, and upholstered sitting chair, 7 years ago. I agree with PPs, the quality is excellent. The dining table and upholstered chair still look new. The dining chairs not so much.

We have a walnut dining table (Andover) with a lacquer finish, and while the table is beautiful and solid, the lacquer finish comes off like nail polish. The surface started looking horrible after a year or two, even pre-kids. Fortunately, we know how to refinish it (not with lacquer!) and will do so as soon as the kids are a little older. After that, we expect the table to last a long time.

We also have the matching chairs, two of which have broken apart when people sat on them and leaned back. R&B replaced with no issues, even years after the purchase.

Despite these issues, I would buy there again.

Good quality, but boring as anything. Just don't buy to much of it.

We bought a couch there 7 years ago. It hasn't lasted as well as I'd like. Good quality but the down pillows get really misshapen and look bad as soon as anyone sits on them.

Jasper couch? We have it and hate, hate, hate the cushions...I wanted the Reese. They even replaced the cushion inserts for me...18 months after we purchased it.

But I love them still the same...I love the clean style and the size is right for our urban condo. I doubt well be passing on the stuff though.

Love it. Way better quality than Macy's or IKEA.

I just bought a bunch of stuff there, so I can't speak to durability. But, I really like the look of their furniture. The customer service has been great, and we have been pleased with the quality of the furniture thus far.

good luck!!
