Taking some sort of class on home maintenance?

Let's say you're getting in the position to buy a home, but before you do so, want to go into it more informed on how to handle various home issues (repairs, regular maintenance, emergencies, etc).

Obviously you can't learn everything there is, but are there various home improvement/maintenance/ownership classes or instruction that you can take? Some kind of "home ownership 101" class? Have you done so, and would you recommend it? Where?

I would subscribe to the magazine "the family handyman." And google lists of things that need to be done quarterly like AC filters, gutters, etc. Something else that's helpful is that when you call a handyman, actually sit there and watch what they do and how they do it.

Home ownership isn't that hard. DH and I learned by just growing up and watching our parents. We are handy and DIY everything.

Thanks pp. I'll check into that. I know YouTube is also really helpful, but was looking for something a bit more hands-on.

Home Depot and Lowes regularly offer how-to classes on specific topics.
